The two-day event takes place between October 12th and 13th at Reliance JIO Gardens
After being blessed with performances by American musician Kamasi Washington, British composer Jacob Collier, the announcement of the One Plus Music Festival in November and the arrival of U2 in December one would think that Mumbai has had its fair share of music events for the year. But the fun doesn’t stop there, with Mumbai-based talent management agency/events company Third Culture announcing the arrival of a brand new music festival called Neon East Fest scheduled for October 12th and 13th at Mumbai’s Reliance JIO Gardens.
The new festival is meant to cater to the urban millennial in Mumbai and Third Culture founder Tej Brar said in a statement, “If you’re a young person in Mumbai that enjoys left field, alternative music, there is really no large-scale festival format event for you within the city’s limits, and that’s the fundamental premise behind Neon East Fest.”
The debut edition of the festival includes two stages; the JIOSaavn Main Stage and the Jameson Electronic Stage. The lineup features artists such as Guernsey-bred producer Mura Masa (who has worked with ASAP Ferg and Charli XCX), Swedish synth-pop outfit Little Dragon (featured on British virtual band Gorillaz’s material), DJs Mr. Carmack and Andre Power, soul singer Fatima, Australian R&B duo KLLO, New York-based producer Photay, Thai-born singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit and more.
On the bill are also Indian acts which include New Delhi-based electronica producer Lifafa, DJs Zokhuma and MoCity, Mumbai-based live electronica outfit Ape Echoes, teen producer Chrms, R&B/jazz band Kimochi Youkai and more.
Also, community online radio Boxout.fm will host a pop-up radio station where artists on the festival lineup will perform surprise sets. Apart from the music, Neon East Festival intends on putting up a beer tent called the Budweiser Beer Garden invoking the spirit of Oktoberfest while art installations will be dotted across the festival site. Tickets for the two-day event are currently available upwards of ₹3,000.
