Celebrating the company of oneself, the British girl group channel their knack for all-things pop and anthemic in their latest single
British pop group Little Mix–comprising Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards– have released “Love (Sweet Love,)” the latest addition to their decade-rich discography.
Penned by members Thirlwall and Pinnock alongside Lauren Aquilina, Issac Sakima Quinn, Paul Godfrey, Ross Godfrey, Skye Edwards and Uzoechi Emenike, “Love (Sweet Love)” encapsulates the group’s long-established personas as icons of empowerment and self-love: “I been spendin’ time on everybody else/ It’s time I did it for me (Love, sweet love).”
The synth-pop track employs Little Mix’s arsenal of harmonies and vocal variations, giving the single a fresh, anthemic feel. Positioning themselves as eternal goddesses, the music video follows the story of three royal figures– Thirlwall, Pinnock and Edwards– who welcome a group of potential suitors into their posh residency. Unable to fathom carnal desires of women, the suitors fail at captivating the goddesses, resulting in them declaring themselves as their best-matched suitors as they sing, “I don’t need your love to love me (Oh)/ Need my own celebration, yeah/ Solo stimulation, yeah/ Use my imagination/ I don’t need your love to love me (Love).”
Serving as the first single off their forthcoming celebratory album Between Us, “Love (Sweet Love)” is all set to join a tracklist featuring the group’s globally recognized hits such as “Wings,” “Black Magic,” “Sweet Melody,” “Move” and more. Scheduled to release on November 12th, the album will also feature five new tracks, including “Love (Sweet Love,)” giving listeners a deeper understanding of how Little Mix’s sound has evolved over the years.
