Mumbai’s music fans, who feared that the popular music series Live From The Console, which seemed to be on a short hiatus [the fortnightly series was last held in March], had fallen off their gig calendars will be thrilled with this bit of news: LFTC is back and will host Kolkata band The Supersonics this month. The upcoming edition of the popular music series is slated to take place on May 25th, 2013.

The pop rock band, who will return to stage in Mumbai after almost a year, having played their reunion gig in June and another one in August 2012, have always been a favorite. Setting all hearsay about the band breaking up to rest, frontman Ananda Sen says, “I’m not leaving any band. Yeah, sure, we fight a lot, but we are all together.” Sen, who is currently busy writing new material for The Supersonics as well as for his solo debut album (scheduled to release later this year) adds that the band will probably play only their new material at LFTC. The Supersonics will be joined by keyboardist Vivek Nair, who was with the now defunct pop rock band The Mayvns. “Everything changes when you have keys. In fact, The Supersonics started off with a keyboard player but it didn’t last.”

For those who missed dayglocrazie aka Pratap N Deb’s Mumbai debut at BOMB Thursday’s Fresh Talent Night this week, the Assamese singer will be bringing his mellow tunes to stage at Live From The Console this month. The Delhi-based Deb says of his first Mumbai performance, “It was good. I wasn’t expecting that kind of response. As a singer-songwriter, it’s difficult getting gigs.” Deb adds that his upcoming show, where he performs a 30-minute set as the opening act, will loosely feature a similar set. “I got some feedback from my friends in Mumbai about the rhythm and sound sequence so I plan to fix these thing for my next show,” adds Deb.

Chennai electro rockers, The F-16’s will also make their Mumbai debut with LFTC. The last time we spoke to them, the young four-piece band was prepping up for their debut EP, Kaliedoscope. “I don’t understand how bands take three years to record an EP,” F16’s keyboardist Harshan Radhakrishnan had said. “We had some lineup changes, so the EP was delayed. It should be out soon,” he adds. With guitarist Viraj Yesudas stepping out, Adam and The Fish Eyed Poets’ Abhinav Krishnaswamy has now taken up guitar duties with the band.

The band, who still do not have their own gear, is happy to play with support (read guitars) from “kind friends who haven’t asked for it to be returned.” For their hour long set, the band will perform songs such as “Nuke”, “Avalanche”, “Who Robbed The Rogue” as well as “Lightbulbs,” which they plan to release as a single next month.

Live From The Console featuring The Supersonics, The F 16’s and Dayglocrazie will take place at Mehboob Studios, Mumbai on May 25th. Entry Rs 250.
