Lizzo Collaborates With K-pop Group AB6IX On ‘Truth Hurts’ Remix

The American hip-hop artist and South Korean group present what may be the most unexpected collab of 2019

It’s possible that Lizzo and AB6IX may have just taken the crown for ‘most unexpected collaboration of 2019.’ The American singer-songwriter and South Korean boy group dropped a bomb on both their fandoms today by releasing a remixed version of her chart-topping track “Truth Hurts.” Neither artist had given any hints about the collaboration other than a few hours prior to the track’s release.

The track dropped earlier this morning on Lizzo’s official YouTube channel and features Korean and English verses from the members of AB6IX. The group’s lyrics are mainly about embracing their idol life and fame regardless of the negative things people say about them. Lizzo and AB6IX work surprisingly well together despite the major differences in their artistic styles, alternating smoothly on each verse.

The AB6IX-feature on “Truth Hurts” marks the third remix of the track, the previous being a remix featuring American rapper DaBaby and one before that a house version by American DJ CID.  “Truth Hurts” was originally released in 2017 but hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2019, post its rise to viral fame on the video app TikTok, maintaining it’s position at number one over the last four weeks to become the longest running number one hit by a solo female rap artist in Hot 100 history.

“Truth Hurts” having multiple remixes follows a trend we saw with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which managed to stay atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart for an astounding 19 weeks thanks to its various versions, including one version with another Korean artist: RM, leader of the world’s number one boy band BTS. The rapper and producer featured on a version of the track titled “Seoul Town Road” back in July and helped “Old Town Road” maintain its final leg of being number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
