Bengaluru-based band are prepping the release of their debut EP

After performing across the country for a year, Bengaluru fusion band Lohar The Blacksmith are back to proving just how diverse their sound can get, with their new song “Blue Lies.” You can stream the track below a full day before its official release on Oct. 26 along with a music video.
The new song goes from djent breakdowns to Kannada rap vocals and more. It marks their first release since their version of film song “Bhare Naina” by Vishal & Shekhar and Nandini Srikar in July this year, although further back in 2023, the band released their stormy song “Samhara,” with its music video out earlier this year. For its part, “Blue Lies” is the third single from their yet-to-be-titled EP.
Drummer and producer Aritra Guin says that the song tackles themes of distrust and the emotional toll of being deceived. He adds, “It’s about falling for the same lies repeatedly. It’s not just about losing faith in others, but also in yourself. This song is deeply personal for all of us.”
The EP will “explore more emotional themes” and shine the spotlight on “Blue Lies,” their latest. The band adds in a press release, “The song [‘Blue Lies’] delivers our hardest-hitting sound yet, with intense vocals and a gripping, experimental approach to genre fusion.”
The new EP also marks the band’s continued evolution as they took on big stages such as their 2022 performance at the Inksoul Tattoo and Music Festival in Bengaluru. Including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and more parts of Karnataka, the band have been well-traveled, especially in the college festival circuit, performing a mix of covers and their own songs.
Formed in 2021, Lohar The Blacksmiths have brought the heavy in terms of rock and metal alongside Carnatic and Indian classical influences. That’s perhaps why they can earn a spot playing on the same lineup as the likes of hitmakers Benny Dayal, Mohit Chauhan, Jasleen Royal and more. In addition to drummer-producer Guin, Lohar The Blacksmiths comprises vocalists and songwriters Vishnu Menon and Sanath Acharya, keyboardist Anoop Antony Kunnalakatt, guitarists Melwin L.J. and Sumukh R. Prasad.
