If you’ve spotted billboards (or social media posts about the aforementioned billboards) across Mumbai over the last week with intriguing words and colorful design, the answer has now been revealed – America’s multi-genre music festival Lollapalooza will host its inaugural edition in Mumbai on January 28th and 29th, 2023. BookMyShow is involved as the promoter, while C3 Presents and WME are listed as producers of the music, art, culture and fashion event.
The eighth and latest country to host the Chicago-origin festival founded by rocker Perry Farrell (of Jane’s Addiction) – Lollapalooza travels to Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Sweden annually – Lollapalooza India has been announced just as the American edition kicks off between July 28th and 31st in Grant Park.
While the lineup for India – which a press release states will feature “over 20 hours of unforgettable live music performed by some of the biggest names globally and locally” – is expected to be out by the end of August, we’re likely in for more international names debuting in India at Lollapalooza.
Limited early bird tickets – priced from ₹7,000 onwards – will go on sale on August 1st, with registrations to book tickets now open on BookMyShow. Sixty thousand tickets are expected to be sold for each day.
The festival’s founder, Farrell, said in a press statement, “The music of India is transcendental, it draws our spirits East. Lollapalooza is an instrument for unity, peace, and education utilizing the universal languages of music and art to find common ground. You may be excited, and we are equally as excited!”
Over a span of 30 years, Lollapalooza has hosted everyone from Pearl Jam to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Rage Against the Machine. The upcoming Chicago edition boasts headliners such as Metallica, Dua Lipa, J. Cole, Green Day, J-Hope, Tomorrow X Together and several more across four days.
Prior to hosting Lollapalooza India in January next year, BookMyShow’s upcoming big-ticket concert will take place in October, featuring the return of pop star Justin Bieber. The singer will perform in New Delhi on October 18th as part of his Justice World Tour.
