LØREN Delivers Pop-Punk Excellence on ‘Need (ooo-eee)’

Reminiscent of the likes of Blink-182, Sum 41 and Green Day, the South Korean artist's new single is a trip back to summers of the early-2000s

South Korean singer-songwriter and producer LØREN has dropped his second single “Need (ooo-eee),” the follow-up to his 2020 debut track “Empty Trash.” The multi-instrumentalist is quickly establishing himself as a rising force in Korean rock as he dives into pop-punk after exploring darker strains of alt rock on “Empty Trash.”

Produced, written and composed by LØREN, “Need (ooo-eee)” takes listeners back to the summers of the early-2000s with its upbeat but melancholy punk pop. Reminiscent of the likes of Blink-182, Sum 41 and Green Day, there’s a nostalgia in the wavy, three-chord guitar and powerful pop-led chorus. For those of us who grew up with this sound, it’s a brilliant immersion into the familiar via a new voice–and a worthy addition to the rock renaissance we’re currently seeing with the likes of Willow Smith, Yungblud, Måneskin and more.

In the music video, LØREN stands alone as a one-man band, switching between vocals, playing the drums, bass and lead guitar, as he sings about his destructive mindset– “I need/ Cold hearts/ Black tar/ Wrong cause (and a little bit of sadness)/ Crowbars/ Neon cars/ Dead stars (and a little bit of madness)/ Ooo-eee Ooo-eee Ooo (and a little bit of damage)/ Ooo-eee Ooo-eee Ooo (and a little bit of wreckage).” The scenes move from one set to another before– in classic rock and roll style– LØREN sets fire to it all.

Also known as Cawlr and DJ Boid, LØREN has previously produced music for popular Korean acts like BLACKPINK and G-Dragon. He made his debut onscreen with a cameo in BLACKPINK’s music video for “Lovesick Girls”–a track he co-wrote with the group.
