#LPLOVE highlights albums that are must-haves for vinyl collectors
This month marks the 15th anniversary of Amy Winehouse’s classic album Back To Black. Commemorating its continued legacy and impact, a limited-edition Picture Disc will be released this week.
The Grammy award winning album rooted in Sixties girl-group pop and soul, spawned five hit singles, including the Record and Song Of The Year winner “Rehab.”
Artists like Adele and Duffy would simply not have made the dent they made without Winehouse paving the way for a Brit-soul revival like no other.
15 years later, the album still sounds fresh as ever thanks to the production of Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. Recorded between 2005 and 2006 at Instrumental Zoo Studios in Miami with Remi, Ronson and the Dap-Kings (of the late great Sharon & The Dap-Kings) at Chung King Studios and Daptone Records in New York – the album on vinyl carries a uniquely warmer sound, making each track feel all the more grand.
Listening to the tracks again makes us realize just how timely and timeless the album and the artist really remain. One of the most interesting facts about Back To Black has been that since its initial release, the second and final album by Winehouse has overwhelmingly won a place in music history as a must-have release, beloved by all, regardless of musical style preferences.
Without doubt, it is one of the greatest albums of the 21st century.
Songs like the title track “Back To Black” and “Tears Dry on Their Own” have become iconic and have gained heightened popularity well beyond their original chart positions.
If you are just starting to collect or looking to expand your vinyl collection with a modern classic, there’s no better album to get going than with Back To Black.
