Having taken a break from full-length projects, the 65-year-old singer-songwriter returns with a compilation of eight deeply moving songs that mirror his ongoing search for purpose and contentment.
Teaming up with his brother-in-law, McCleary, who enhances the album and highlights the harmony in both of their creative endeavors, Ali articulates his desire for the music to strike a chord with listeners, underlining the individual importance of every track.

Lucky Ali: The industry dynamics have changed significantly; albums are no longer the norm, but singles dominate. Amidst this shift, we had crafted music, which we then set aside, awaiting the right moment for its release. It was during this period that we began selecting unfinished songs, completing them, and even composing new ones, culminating in a delightful collaboration.
You’ve described Subah Ke Taare as an aspirational album, a continuous quest. How does your music-making process mirror your life, and can understanding music on a deeper level offer life lessons?
Lucky Ali: My approach to music mirrors my life—it’s organized amidst the chaos, much like my room cluttered with wires and equipment, where each item has its place. Similarly, my music holds a plethora of thoughts and emotions, ready for expression whenever needed.
How does your sense of identity influence your collaborations? Do you find solo work more fulfilling or collaborative efforts? Do you perceive collaborations as enriching or compromising?
Lucky Ali: Authenticity is paramount; the music must resonate with honesty. Whether solo or collaborative, as long as the music touches hearts, it’s fulfilling. My identity remains intact through my expressions.
Reflecting on your artistic evolution, what challenges have you faced in finding your voice and achieving breakthroughs?
Lucky Ali: Performing live demands a distinct approach compared to studio recordings. Onstage, there’s no room for error; you must nail it. I enjoy both aspects, as each offers unique opportunities.
Mr. McCleary, having collaborated extensively with Lucky, what distinguishes this project from your previous work together?
Mikey McCleary: This project is a culmination of years of unfinished work, supplemented by new tracks composed recently. Despite changing production techniques, the core essence remains timeless. We aim for music that transcends trends, resonating for years to come.
Are there specific strategies you employ as a producer to ensure timelessness in your music?
Mikey McCleary: Our focus is on crafting good songs, capable of standing alone with just a guitar. While we appreciate intricate production, the song’s core must be organic and emotive.
How do you balance originality and innovation with perfection and timelessness in music?
Lucky Ali: Music evolves within the framework of existing notes, seeking moments of silence within the melody. I remain open to experimentation, embracing diverse influences while staying true to myself.
Are you inclined towards pioneering futuristic music or preserving traditional sounds?
Lucky Ali: I’m open to diverse musical approaches and collaborations. Each musician brings a unique quality to the table, enriching the creative process.
Can you recall a moment from your recent album where collaborating with new musicians or experimenting with novel sounds brought freshness and uniqueness?
Lucky Ali: The involvement of live musicians always infuses freshness. We incorporated live elements, including guitars and various instruments, resulting in a dynamic and authentic sound.
