The tracks are part of the Rajasthan-bred artist’s plan to release one new song every month for the next few months
Fresh off releasing two new singles, the melancholic and breezy tracks “Door” and “Kya Rahoge Tum,” Rajasthan-bred singer-songwriter Maddy Sharma talks to us about the new songs, his previous releases, what he’s got in store next and more. Read below.
Tell me about your early years with music.
During my early years, I had the privilege of growing up in a small town in Rajasthan, where my passion for music began to take root. It was during this time that I discovered my fascination for playing the keys, and I eagerly delved into learning this instrument from a young age. My initial foray into the world of music performance occurred when I had the opportunity to showcase my skills during school prayers, which further fueled my passion and desire to pursue music seriously.
As fate would have it, I eventually made the decision to move to Ahmedabad to pursue my higher education. It was here that I truly started immersing myself in the music scene. Through persistent dedication and hard work, I began securing gigs not only within the city but also in surrounding areas.
Inspiration played a significant role in shaping my musical journey. I draw inspiration from a diverse range of artists, such as the legendary Kishore Kumar, the immensely talented Amit Trivedi, the maestro A.R. Rahman, the mesmerizing sounds of Coldplay, and the incomparable Michael Jackson. Each of these artists has left an indelible mark on my musical sensibilities and has influenced my approach to music. I’m incredibly grateful to my parents for their constant support in my pursuit of music.
What can you tell me about your previous releases?
I have released several tracks throughout my musical journey, showcasing my skills as a singer, composer, and lyricist. Some notable releases include ‘Manzelien’ in 2015 with Guru Dhanoa, ‘Anjane Raatein’ in 2019 with Divyang Arora, ‘Aaj Mujhe Rona Hai’ in 2019 with Ronak Pandit, and ‘Coffee’ in 2022 with Daidipya Sheth. These songs reflect different emotions and themes, resonating with listeners and inspiring me to continue creating meaningful music.
When can you tell me about “Door”?
The process of shaping my new song ‘Door’ began when I came up with the catchy hook line and shared it on my Instagram stories. The enthusiastic response from my friends and audience motivated me to develop the song further. I approached my collaborator, Daidipya, and we decided to keep the composition simple yet impactful. Surprisingly, what started as a spontaneous project evolved into an immersive creative process. We found ourselves completely absorbed in the songwriting, and within just an hour, the initial version of the song came together seamlessly.
In terms of its lyrical theme and sonic imprint, ‘Door’ represents a departure from my previous work, showcasing my versatility as an artist. The lyrics delve into themes of longing, closure, and the emotional journey of moving on. Musically, the song incorporates a unique blend of melodies and harmonies, creating a sonic experience that resonates with listeners. Overall, “Door” is a result of spontaneous inspiration, collaborative effort, and a desire to create something beyond our expectations. It represents a new creative direction for me as an artist, both in terms of its lyrical depth and its distinct sonic qualities.
What’s next?
In the upcoming months, I have set my sights on a consistent release schedule, aiming to unveil one new song every month for the next four months. This collection of songs forms a cohesive series, where each track shares a common sonic thread while offering distinct and unique experiences. Similar to the surprise factor found in “Door,” these upcoming releases will captivate listeners with unexpected twists and diverse musical experiments. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to present this carefully curated series, which not only showcases my artistic evolution but also demonstrates my versatility as a musician.
