Madhur Sharma and Moin Dive Into New Love on ‘Khoya Sa’

The singer-composer behind songs like “Kali Kali Zulfon Ke” teams up with the drummer-producer on an exuberant, electro-pop song

Mumbai drummer-producer and composer Moin Farooqui (who goes by his first name as an artist) has been part of metal bands like Carnage Inc., prog band Clay Crown and put out a post-rock-informed solo EP. He’s also been working with the likes of pop artist Madhur Sharma, who’s established himself in Indian pop with songs like “Kali Kali Zulfon Ke,” “Samandar Sharaab” and more.

While the duo have had songs like “Moving On” out in the past (where Sharma just had a spoken word section), they’ve now teamed up for the bright electronic-pop song “Khoya Sa.” The two-minute song plays out in a style reminiscent of current pop favorites like Lauv, with Hindi lyrics about all the new feelings that love can bring about.

The duo say in a press release, “It is a romantic pop song that perfectly describes how your special someone makes you feel. True love is all about meeting someone and experiencing butterflies in your stomach and the never-ending excitement for an eternity. It is a feeling that is incredibly hard to describe. However, this song may just help you convey your feelings in words.”

There’s anxiousness and intensity in matters of the heart and “Khoya Sa” addresses that as well through Sharma’s sublime vocal range that showcases a bit of vulnerability in the excitement of things. The statement adds, “This track captures the essence of youth, innocence, and the thrill of having a person to call your own. The singer talks about how every moment throughout the day reminds him of the girl he is in love with. This track talks about mixed emotions like wistfulness, excitement, and euphoria that accompany true love.” The song is out via Pearl Records, founded by Sharma’s management, Pearl Talent Management.

In the music video shot and edited by Deepit Badani, there’s footage from Moin and Sharma’s time together on the road with the rest of their live band along with the singer performing the song at a getaway destination.
