Protecting Oceans, Planting Trees, Reducing Waste and Rocking Out: Mahindra Independence Rock Teams Up with Seagram’s 100 Pipers Glassware Play For a Cause
The social and environmental platform by Seagram’s 100 Pipers has enlisted I-Rock favorites like Indus Creed, Zero and Parikrama to champion eco causes

As we near the return of Mahindra Independence Rock festival this weekend in Mumbai – taking place on November 5th and 6th at Bayview Lawns in Mazgaon – there’s a new, environmentally-conscious dimension added to the rock event.
Seagram’s 100 Pipers’ social and environmental platform Play For A Cause – which has been responsible for some star-studded performances and live collaborations around the country in the past – is partnering with Independence Rock to build awareness with rock bands like Indus Creed, Zero and Parikrama in the mix.
As part of this initiative, Parikrama will be raising their voice and support for ecological regeneration, while Zero will help in an attempt to make I-Rock a zero-waste event and Indus Creed are batting for reducing the use of single-use plastics that invariably end up polluting the ocean.
Beyond the apt cause for a band like Zero, the bands note that these are important cause that resonates with them. While awareness through digital campaigns and at the festival is part of the plan to empower attendees to actively participate in environmentally friendly practices, there’s more to it. Parikrama’s Go Green initiative will involve each festivalgoer receiving a guitar pick in a seed paper envelope as a memento to plant. “With this Play For a Cause initiative, we want to drive home the thought that we need to live more harmoniously with nature. It’s about safeguarding the future of the human species and recognizing that we are a part of nature, not separate from it,” Parikrama says in a statement.
Environment sustainability firm Skrap is working to make I-Rock a zero-waste event with awareness coming in from Zero, while Indus Creed will talk about the use of rice husk glasses and steel straws at the gig. Zero said in their statement, “By supporting this Play for A Cause initiative, we hope to help people understand the principle of zero waste – Reuse, upcycle, repurpose.” Indus Creed said of the initiative, “We are hoping to make a difference by encouraging everyone to think about how important the world’s oceans are to our very survival and do their bit to protect and save them.”
