MAMAMOO Reflect On Their Journey Thus Far in ‘Where Are We Now’

The track serves as the lead single off the South Korean group’s 11th EP, ‘WAW’

South Korean group MAMAMOO reflect on their seven-year career in their latest track, “Where Are We Now.” Characterized by a minimalistic blend of mellow piano and soft strumming on the guitar, “Where Are We Now” allows listeners to focus on the quartet’s exceptional understanding of vocal variation and harmonization.

The music video opens with member Hwasa seated in an elegant bathtub, seeming to be lost and captivated by her thoughts. The vocalist’s rich and soulful voice sets the mood right, conveying a sense of fulfillment as she sings, “It was beautiful and dazzling/ I cried and laughed with excitement and pain / I was thankful, I didn’t want to let go.” The limelight then shifts to Wheein, who serenades listeners with her falsetto asking the question, “Where are we now.” The chorus highlights the group’s vocal prowess with Solar and Hwasa taking the lead, singing, “I met you as several seasons passed/ Maybe I’m wandering somewhere/ Where are we now (Where are we now.)”

The predominant ballad sound shifts as the string ensemble ropes in soft-synth beats with rapper Moonbyul questioning the future; “Talking about Where-where we goin’/ Somewhere/ Will you take me/ Or as the wind blows/ Just let it flow/ How far have you come, where are you?” The video concludes with the group standing in a dense forest surrounded by flashlights as they harmonize.

WAW is the group’s first all-ballad EP and comprises four songs, with Moonbyul credited as a songwriter on the B-side track, “A Memory For Life.” The rest of the record includes, “Another Day,” “Destiny Part 2,” and the lead single, “Where Are We Now.”
