Following a Thailand run of shows in 2018, the New Delhi band return to South East Asia to play five shows
Keeping in spirit with the DIY aesthetic, New Delhi alternative act Man.Goes Human cheekily called their current tour of Vietnam ‘Mac Qua,’ which translates to “too expensive” in Vietnamese.
Bassist and founder Shitij Gulati says, “[It’s] a take on our DIY efforts every year to arrange finances for our ‘indie’ tours.” In late November last year, the band had strung together their Thailand tour, performing four shows. In 2015, they’d made their international debut in Singapore. This time around, they’re playing five shows including a set at gig series Sofar in Hanoi. The bassist says they learned a few “tricks” through their previous tour in Thailand, in terms of booking gigs despite being an unknown band and the importance of promoting shows locally. “And of course what to do when you first land here and spend our hard earned indie money considerately,” Gulati adds.
Following a send-off show on November 29th in New Delhi, the band performed at Hanoi Rock City on November 30th and at a venue called Soul Beach in Hoi An on December 3rd. Gulati says about their Hanoi Rock City show, “What a venue, and a lot of foreign audience received us very well, and we’re getting a lot of messages from them to come see us again at our second show in Hanoi.” The band’s lineup for this tour includes vocalist and synth in-charge Kaprila Keishing and drummer Akshat Pathak.
Gulati adds that there’s another festival in South East Asia that Man.Goes Human have been shortlisted for, which might see them traveling to the region again in early 2020. As for the upcoming new year, Gulati says, “[There will be] a slight evolution in music style, from what we have learned from our time out here, and hopefully another country if we can manage the expenses.”
