The track is the first of many the Mumbai artists plan on releasing

Mumbai-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sidd Coutto and singer-songwriter Manasi Scott have been working together in various capacities for over a decade. Scott even guested on Coutto’s 2021 EP Deux. Now, the pair is out with a refreshing new song in the shape of the Eighties-inspired “Let It Go.” The track blends both artists’ voices together beautifully which rests on a bed of lush synth and guitar parts as well as an airy drum groove. In this interview with Rolling Stone India, Coutto and Scott talk about working together, the new song and their plans going forward. Read below.

Listening to the new song “Let It Go,” there’s a definite Eighties sound to it. Is that the direction you were going for?

Coutto: Definitely. I mean everything, the [sounds of the] drums, the guitar is all very Eighties as well as the synthesizers. That was the idea to have it sound almost like if we were in the Eighties and writing this song.

Scott: It’s our favorite time and space in music come alive! Eighties loving and healing.

What have the writing sessions been like for you guys?

Coutto The thing is we got together to write and in that first writing session we wrote about 13 or 14 songs. This was one of the last songs to come out of those sessions.

There’s definitely a musical chemistry between the two of you, what’s it like working with each other?

Scott: Magical! Just moving through words and chords with Sidd is a huge learning experience. He’s a genius.

Coutto: If I play something on my bass or guitar, Manasi just starts and then can just go on and build from it. She’s fantastic.

Are you going to be taking the act live?

Coutto: We plan on doing this live. Also, both of us do this improv thing, so we’re going to be pulling that out at the gigs as well, just taking topics from the audience.

Do you have plans to release more songs?

Coutto: We definitely will be releasing more songs.

Scott: It is not possible to jam with Sidd and not come up with song after song! He does make me a better songwriter. A whole album worth is in the works and even some in Hindi.
