Marco Minnemann to Tour India with Mohini Dey and Rhythm Shaw

The drumming virtuoso from neo-prog/jazz band The Aristocrats is scheduled to play in three cities as part of BlueTree Collab in September

If you want to know just how well live collaborations are working out, September is looking like a showcase month. In addition to glam metal band Nitro’s debut India tour, German drummer extraordinaire Marco Minnemann will return to India between September 13th and 23rd, accompanied by prodigious bassist Mohini Dey and guitarist Rhythm Shaw.

The tour–which tentatively includes stops in Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi with two more stops in the works– is part of event and artist management firm BlueTree’s Collab series. Minnemann will also conduct drum clinics in association with music retailer Furtado’s venture High Play.

Minnemann, who last visited India with The Aristocrats in 2016, is also following bandmate Guthrie Govan’s solo tour, which featured Dey on bass and drummer Gino Banks. Minnemann says, “It is my utmost pleasure to be part of this great tour and play with these amazing musicians together for a run of five cities in your beautiful country. We’ll be performing some selected pieces of all of our catalogues.” The drummer adds that he’ll preview material off his new album Borrego, which features prog rock veterans Rush’s guitarist Alex Lifeson and virtuoso axeman Joe Satriani.

Rhythm Shaw mentions he met Minnemann first on tour in Germany in late 2015, where they spoke about konokol and says it’s an “honor” to be playing live with the drummer and with Dey, whom Shaw has performed with on the regular. Dey, for her part, mentions, “I love his playing and have heard great things about him from Guthrie last time when I did a tour with him. It was a memorable tour and I think this one is also going to be a memorable one.”

BlueTree’s Karan Mehta says the idea of a regular series called Collab is to “freshen things up in the music scene.” He adds, “After such a great response with the Guthrie tour, we really wanted to experiment with more and this is the outcome of the same. Can’t wait for people to witness this live.”
