Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

[Five stars] Capcom Genre: Fighting Price: Rs 2,999 (PS3/X360)

When was the last time you played a beat ’em up and didn’t feel like a complete punching bag either against the computer or a fellow human being (who may or may not be your sister)? Never. Well, at least until you’ve played Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

If you haven’t already figured it out, this is one game that is extremely accessible. Every match has something special for both combatants, regardless of their skill levels even if all you do is randomly mash buttons. Doing so would eventually result in a cascade of colours and special effects that tear up your screen in the name of an ultra move.

Sure it might be over the top enough to make Lady Gaga’s dress sense seem sober but it does a swell job of keeping newbies entertained, even if they end up losing these strictly three-on-three tag team bouts.

On the topic of over the top, that term extends to the character line-up. From the lesser known Marvel heroes such as She Hulk to stalwarts from Capcom games such as Ryu from Street Fighter there’s a host of fighters to choose from and master.

In addition to this, it looks gorgeous. Using the same tech that was seen in last year’s Super Street Fighter IV it retains much of the same 2D field with the characters being in 3D. It looks and plays smooth as well, regardless of your choice of platform.

Playing online is also fun with barely any issues and a rabid community. There’s a cool license system to keep track of your online brawling prowess too.And if you’re bored of human opponents, there’s a deep single-player campaign with different endings for each character as well as a challenge mode to hone your skills.

With a wealth of gameplay modes, tons of characters to choose from, killer presentation and a great online community, there’s very little that gets in a way of what is a compellingly great game.
