Maynard James Keenan slipped a small update on new Tool material into his interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast last weekend, Antiquiet notes. “I’m gonna stop by the rehearsal space today, in theory, having beaten them up going, ”˜Please give me music, please give me music, please give me music, please give me music, please give me music,’” said the Tool frontman of his bandmates. “In theory, they have a CD for me today, to listen to some jams, so we can get this thing going.”

Keenan was also asked if the new music had lyrics, but the rocker said he hadn’t heard the material yet, and therefore hadn’t had the chance to craft some words around the tunes. “I’ve gotta hear the sounds, and I can’t write words until I hear the sounds. . . and I haven’t heard the sounds,” Keenan said. “Gotta listen to the sounds, and go from the sounds.”

Drummer Danny Carey said last month that Tool’s next album will likely be released at the beginning of 2014, and also said he had been working on new music with guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor without Keenan. Tool’s last album, 10,000 Days, was released in 2006; Keenan has since spent time touring with A Perfect Circle and has released more music as Puscifer, while Carey recently released a new album with his band Volto.
