Mumbai-based sister duo Riya and Simran Duggal have managed to juxtapose their honeyed harmonies, modern pop sound and strong songwriting to create quite an identity for themselves over the last couple of years. Therefore it comes as no surprise that their talents have been spotted by Nexa Music, as they were announced to be part of the Top 24 for the nationwide hunt for English-language artists from across the country.

Referring to their inclusion in the competition, Riya says, “Nexa Music is such a giving platform in the sense that it’s helping to pioneer a new movement of English independent music.” She adds, “Independent artists often lack the resources to deliver professional sounding and good looking music videos and Nexa Music helps to bridge that gap.”

Although Simetri hasn’t officially released music, they have included their tracks in their live sets such as the emotional “Infinity,” the edgy “Ego,” the melodic “Dreamers In The Sun,” the pop folk-tinged “Moon And Tide” and more. The pair are also part of playback singer Shalmali Kholgade’s band. Simran says, “As artists living in a country that predominantly listen to Bollywood music, we find it very challenging to garner a crowd to listen to English pop original music. Nexa is a great platform to get exposure, showcase our talents and be recognized for it.”

On the possibility of going far in the competition and working with composers Clinton Cerejo and A.R. Rahman, Riya says, “These chances don’t come by often and to collaborate with A.R. and Clinton on a completely new song from scratch sounds like a chart-topping formula. It would be a dream come true.”
