Europe to Headline Me:Gong Festival 2024 in Meghalaya This November

Swedish rock veterans known globally for their Eighties hits ‘The Final Countdown’ and ‘Rock The Night’ will be back in India for the first time since 1988

Swedish rock band Europe, rock veterans Indus Creed, fusion/pop band Euphoria, actor and DJ-producer Udita Goswami and more take top billing for the upcoming Me:Gong Festival in Tura, Meghalaya taking place on Nov. 29 and 30, 2024.

Me:Gong Festival 2024 is presented by Meghalaya Tourism and organized by companies VAS Inc. & Ivory Valley and this marks yet another international rock band coming down to India this year. Europe, globally known for songs like “The Final Countdown,” “Rock The Night” and “Carrie” from their 1986 album The Final Countdown, are back in India after more than 30 years. The band last performed in Mumbai in 1988.

Comprising vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist John Levén, keyboardist Mic Michaeli and drummer Ian Haugland, Europe have gone beyond pop culture history, releasing glam-informed multi-platinum albums like Out of This World in 1988 (with singles like “Superstitious”) and eventually going on hiatus in 1992. It was in 2003 that they reunited and released Start from the Dark in 2004. Five more albums have followed in the decades since, right up to 2017’s Walk the Earth.

They will be joined at Me:Gong Festival by Indian rock favorites Indus Creed, fusion acts Shanka Tribe and Euphoria, plus local acts such as folk-fusion and rock band Da Suraka, rock act Haystack Ladies, folk-fusion act Summersalt and more across two days. Tickets prices start at ₹299, with more details awaited.

Other attractions at the festival include traditional dance and music from Meghalaya, eating contests, fashion shows, food and craft stalls, sports and games local to the tribes, with camping and tenting options for attendees.

In its previous outing in December 2023, Me:Gong Festival was set up near Baljek airport (the same venue this year). Top-billed acts included Eurodance act Vengaboys, folk-indie act When Chai Met Toast, pop artist Armaan Malik, hard rock veterans Parikrama and more.

Me:Gong Festival takes place on Nov. 29 and 30, 2024 at Baljek Airport, Garo Hills, Tura in Meghalaya. Get more details here.
