For the beer-chugging, Sabbath-loving (the band, not the day) metal heads, this Sunday marks the debut of pub gig Metal At The Tavern in Thane. The event will not only work as Bengaluru stoner rockers Bevar Sea’s album launch gig, but also see performances by four other bands from Mumbai and Pune, including thrash metal band Halahkuh, black metallers Cosmic Infusion, grindcore band Gutslit and horror metal band Albatross.

Albatross bassist Riju Dasgupta is organizing the metal gig along with Nitin Rajan, former vocalist of Hyderabad thrash metal band Sledge. Dasgupta says, “I conceptualized Metal At the Tavern with Bevar Sea from Bangalore headlining this particular edition, because I believe strongly that Mumbai deserves to watch the immensity that is Bevar Sea live.”

BevarSeais playing a 45 minute set consisting of songs off their self-titled debut album, and a few covers from stoner bands such as Sleep and Kyuss. On the other hand, Albatross will be playing as part of their Wings of Ill Omen mini-tour. Their set will also feature guests including Bhayanak Maut vocalist Sunneith Revankar on vocals for their inside-joke-inspired song “Uncle Sunny At The Tavern,” and Bevar Sea vocalist Ganesh Krishnaswamy on Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.”

Dasgupta does not think organizing the gig outside city limits will affect the turnout. He says, “People from Thane go to Mumbai to watch shows all the time, and you know, Thane to Mumbai is only as far as Mumbai to Thane. Of course, anyone who complains about the distance will only be missing a great show.”

Bevar Sea, Albatross, Cosmic Infusion, Gutslit and Halahkuh play at Hotel United 21, Thane on November 18th, 5pm onwards. Entry: Rs. 250. Event details here.
