Metallica Dress Up as Murderous Bears in Short Film

The metal group mocks people who protested their Glastonbury appearance over James Hetfield's support of hunting

Before Metallica took the stage at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival over the weekend, they poked fun at the Britons who protested their appearance over frontman James Hetfield’s support of hunting with a video titled Glastallica directed by Glastonbury documentarian Julian Temple. The band kicked things off by running their usual intro clip of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (which included a tribute to recently deceased star Eli Wallach), but switched things up about 90 seconds in to focus on a fox hunt. As the video shows wealthy statesmen readying themselves for a big hunt, a voice calls out, “What does the fox say?” and chaos begins, with rifle-wielding bears, played by the band itself, exacting their revenge on the hunters.

Hetfield is currently the voice of an eight-episode History Channel miniseries, The Hunt ”“ many episodes of which are streaming online ”“ which documents the lives of bear hunters in Kodiak, Alaska.

Metallica are on the second leg of a “Metallica by Request” tour, which is taking them through Europe. The group asked fans to vote on set lists for each date of the tour, prompting them to give one fan favorite, the …And Justice for All track “Frayed Ends of Sanity,” its first-ever live performance in Finland. They also reserved one slot on the set list for a new song, “Lords of Summer,” which they debuted in March.

“[It’s] fairly representative of where our creative headspace is at right now,” Lars Ulrich said of the tune to Rolling Stone. “It’s one of those things that’s like, ‘Here, we’re writing and we’re creating.'” By their own estimation, Metallica say they are in the “fourth inning” of creating the follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic.
