South Korea’s Triumph over Germany Sends BTS Up on Mexico’s iTunes Charts

Mexican Fans are celebrating South Korea's win against Germany in yesterday's FIFA World Cup match by mass-streaming the K-pop group's music

As part of a movement to show their immense gratitude to South Korea, Mexican fans have pushed K-pop giants BTS to the top of their local iTunes charts. South Korea’s 2-0 win against Germany in yesterday’s FIFA World Cup 2018 match in Russia pushed the latter out of competition, and Mexico right into the knockout rounds.

What followed was an immense wave of celebration with locals in Mexico City flocking to the South Korean embassy to cheer in front of the gates and grab any South Korean they found to engulf them in love. They even managed to drag Korean consul general to Mexico, Byoung Jin Han, into the fray:

Mexican K-pop fans contributed in their own way, mass-streaming South Korean superstars BTS’ hit single “Fake Love” and encouraging non-fans to do the same–within hours the track had shot up 31 spots on the iTunes Mexico chart.

The revelry however, is bittersweet for South Korea; the nation are out of the running for the World Cup themselves since Mexico had failed to return the favor and defeat Sweden during their match pre-knockout match.
