Midland Sparks and Blent Release New Bass-Heavy Single “Hinder”
The Pune and Bengaluru producers bring trap, drum ‘n bass and drumstep together on their first single
Some of the best gig stories unfold in the greenroom. Ask any artist and he’ll tell you that some of the best collaborations also fall into place backstage. Pune bass artist Midland Sparks (Maireya Rajurkar) and Bengaluru producer Blent (Aniket Vidyadhar) met last year and the pair have been collaborating regularly since then. Says Rajurkar, “We met backstage at a gig in Pune, and we realized pretty quickly that our sounds were similar. But this is the first track we’re releasing together.”
The single, which mixes genres as varied as hip hop, drum and bass, trap, footwork and juke, was made through a cumbersome process of internet exchanges. Says Vidyadhar, “We faced quite a few challenges, both technical and artistic. Our DAWs (Data Audio Workstation software) would crash due to overload of tracks, sometimes project files would just disappear. One challenge I faced was to work with a higher tempo since most of my work prior to this has been much more soothing and slower.”
Midland Sparks and Blent add that “Hinder” is only the first of many upcoming releases. Says Rajurkar, “Blent sent me the idea, a musical draft which is what we based the track on. He’s good with sampling and I’m good with synth so we went with the flow and tried to make something that wasn’t too conventional, we’ve tried to include elements different genres. We’re definitely going to make more music together.”
