Disclaimer: If you’re looking for a game with a deep and engaging story, state of the art graphics or stellar production values stop reading this review right now. Minecraft is one of those titles whose gameplay is good enough to overlook everything else that could be deemed as a flaw.

According to the developer, Markus Persson, “Minecraft is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons. Or something like that,” so as you can tell, it’s all about what you can do in the game world rather than being tied to any lore of sorts.

Minecraft focuses on pure freedom. As the name suggests, you can create or craft whatever you want from a variety of materials. The paid version includes monsters, spiders and blobs that aim to make your in-game existence short, and a wider variety of materials for crafting. Minecraft Classic is the free version that is playable on the website and only allows you to create minus any thought of survival from monsters.

While it looks like ancient games such as Doom (yes, the first Doom game), the level of freedom granted is unprecedented . And yes you can create anything from the USS Enterprise to the Playboy Mansion; the only limitation is well…you. Definitely worth a look-in if not an outright purchase.
