The Mumbai five-piece band Modern Mafia, are looking forward to “dirty up the stage a lot,” as front man Varun Das puts it, for their victory lap at Ray-Ban’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations on December 1st.
Of the band’s 30-minute set, Das says, they will reserve 10 minutes for “antics.” Modern Mafia will be premiering their new song “Chewbacca’s Revenge,” a Star Wars tribute for which the band will have “a few people on stage doing crazy things that we couldn’t buy machines to do,” according to Das. Keeping with the theme of celebrating legends at the gig, Modern Mafia’s set will also inclue covers of American punk band Blink-182 [“All The Small Things”] and Green Day’s garage punk alter-ego Foxboro Hot Tubs [“Stop Drop ”˜n Roll”].
Next up for the band is recording a music video to promote David, a film by director Bejoy Nambiar that has Monica Dogra in a lead role. “We’re not allowed to tell you which song yet, but the music video will release by the end of December this year,” says Das.
Modern Mafia play at Bandra Amphitheater for Ray-Ban’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations on December 1st, 2012, along with Indus Creed, Parikrama, The Uncertainty Principle, The News, 83 Miles Per Hour and Street Stories. Entry free. Event details here.
