Modern Mafia Get Animated on Music Video for ‘Arnie’
The Mumbai alt punk rock group take on sheep in their new video
Apparently, Modern Mafia only had two dreams ”“ to be featured in an animated music video and to fight an army of sheep. The Mumbai alternative punk rock band checked both boxes with the recently released music video for “Arnie,” a song that is inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, off their debut EP Random Sheep.Â
It would have been an obvious choice to see a likeness of the [former] Governator in the music video, but frontman Varun Das explains, “We just didn’t want to get sued, that’s all. I’ve sent the video to him for his approval, but I haven’t heard back.”
The band have shown their love for the mammals previously by featuring them on their EP album art, but this music video sees them head to war with the band even without a single bleat. The video, directed by Shankar Menon and Ayudh Roy, features sheep strapping bombs, loading guns, flying fighter planes to take on the quartet in the middle of a desert. The real reason behind choosing sheep, Das says, is that “killing sheep has always been a dream. Although it could be a bit controversial if we did it in real life, so we chose an animated video.”
“Arnie” also appears on the soundtrack for the upcoming Bollywood and Tamil film David, directed by Bejoy Nambiar, except it gets a regional makeover for the film”“ the Hindi version is titled “Bandhay”, while the Tamil version is called “Machi.”
