Mohit Mukhi Releases New Up-Tempo Song ‘So If You’re Gone?’
The song is the Mumbai-based singer-songwriter’s first since last year’s ‘Find You There’
After releasing his assertive single “Find You There” last year, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Mohit Mukhi spent more time playing gigs rather than writing new music. He says, “It’s been a concentrated effort to juggle both, play gigs and better my skill set.” Now, the musician is out with a fresh new track in the shape of the glitzy “So If You’re Gone?”
Mukhi informs us that hanging out by himself on his terrace at night turned into a good exercise for his songwriting. It was on one of these nights that the chorus for “So If You’re Gone?” came about and he says, “The idea got me quite excited, and the verses and the rest of the song naturally followed.” On what he’s trying to convey through the track’s lyrics, Mukhi says, “Some stories never resolve. ‘So If You’re Gone?’ captures the unease in the wake of unresolved love. The lyrics talk about spaces that are tinged with absence.”
He adds, “But the mind refuses to fill them up or forget. The songwriting captures the movement of reminding the heart that they are truly gone when they have left and crushing the hope it builds up every time.”
Sonically, the track is quite a fresh approach by Mukhi and a departure from his previous somber and melancholic sound. “So If You’re Gone?” has a sort of funk touch to it and includes bright instrumentation, a moody yet exhilarating guitar solo as well as Mukhi’s timber vocals. The singer-songwriter says, “You know that feeling when a song hurts and heals at the same time? Writing and recording this song did that for me. It was quite a journey.”
With a music video also out for “So If You’re Gone?” Mukhi is now keen to go back to working on albums and is planning to release an EP next year. He says, “Making an album is truly a very wholesome experience and it’s been three years since I did one.”
