Monica Dogra to Star In Docu-Series by Gloria Steinem
Titled ‘Woman’, the series talks about global violence against women and the resulting gender marginalization
Musician and actor Monica Dogra has reportedly joined hands with American feminist icon, journalist and social activist Gloria Steinem to star in a new weekly documentary series titled Woman. Produced by Steinem, the series will tell the stories of women and men around the globe who are fighting against gender-based violence.
“I shot for Woman in northern British Columbia in Canada about six months ago,” Dogra said in a statement. “We covered the rising issue of missing and murdered women on Highway 16, popularly known as ‘The Highway of Tears’.”  The singer from dance pop band Shaa’ir and Func adds that while she was growing up in the US, she was completely ignorant about these events in Canada and feels that the media and television are powerful tools in eradicating this kind of ignorance. The Hindustan Times reports that Dogra’s portions were filmed several months ago.
The docu-series will air on May 10th in the US on the new channel Viceland. The series will also feature an episode produced by Oscar-winning documentary film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her direction on Saving Face [2012] and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness [2015.]
