The latest single leads the group's 12th EP 'Reason'
South Korean powerhouse Monsta X have returned with a potential hit in hand. Titled “Beautiful Liar,” the single leads the group’s 12th EP Reasons and follows their April 2022 EP, Shape Of Love.
Co-written by members Hyungwon, Joohoney and I.M, “Beautiful Liar” is a hip-hop- and dance-based track with irresistible punk-rock influences, which give the song its earworm quality. It’s a gorgeous blend of sonic intensity and sauciness without overshadowing the group’s formidable vocals and rap performances. Lyrically, “Beautiful Liar” narrates the tale of being charmed by a love interest. Despite knowing they’re nothing more than a beautiful liar, the protagonist cannot help but crave their affection: “Toxic, so addictive/ The one reason you got me crazy (Why, oh, why?)/ Your lie that completely destroyed me (But I want it more, yeah).” Rapper Joohoney and I.M amp up the drama further with powerful rap performances, each delivered in their unique styles. Thanks to the track’s commendable arrangement and Monsta X’s enthralling performance, “Beautiful Liar” is both a visual and sonic treat!
Tapping into the dangerous nature of love, the music video features the Monsta X members performing in an arena set ablaze. Clad in leather ensembles, the members capture the track’s sonic potency via sleek choreographed moves and rebellious expressions.
Reason, the EP, features five additional tracks – “Daydream,” “Crescendo,” “Lone Ranger,” “Deny” and “It’s Alright.” Joohoney, Hyungwon and I.M have contributed to the overall project in a production or songwriting capacity.
