Mother Monster Lady Gaga Will Appear in ‘Wednesday’ Season Two
The musician and actress will make a cameo in the popular Jenna Ortega-led Netflix series when it returns for its second season
Back in September, Netflix offered a sneak peek into the forthcoming second season of Wednesday. The behind-the-scenes video showed only slivers of glimpses into the show’s wicked return — and for good reason. Jenna Ortega, who plays the titular role, warned: “If we showed you any more, your eyes would bleed.” Fittingly, Wednesday has recruited a special guest with a long history of startling on-screen appearances: Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga.
According to Variety, the musician and actress will make a cameo appearance when the series makes its awaited return. Additional details about the role have not yet been disclosed, though it appears to have been in the works for a while. It has been reported that producers were aiming for Gaga to join the show in a larger capacity, but ultimately settled for a more limited appearance.
The seeds for Gaga’s Wednesday appearance were planted in December 2022, when her Born This Way deep cut “Bloody Mary” went viral. There was a scene in season one where Ortega performed a self-choreographed dance to the Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck,” but some users on social media thought “Bloody Mary” was a better fit.
Gaga herself participated in the viral trend, sharing a TikTok performing the dance to her own song. “Slay Wednesday!” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “You’re welcome at Haus of Gaga anytime (and bring Thing with you, we love paws around here).”
Earlier this year, Ortega considered the idea of Gaga joining Wednesday, telling Variety: “I’m sure Netflix would love that … If Lady Gaga were to be a part of it, they’d have to be two monsters who understand each other.”
Wednesday season two is currently being filmed in Ireland. The show has welcomed a number of new series regulars including Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor. News of Gaga’s cameo arrives after it was previously revealed that Christopher Lloyd, who played Fester Addams in the early-Nineties Addams Family movies, will also be making a special appearance. Other guests include Thandiwe Newton, Joanna Lumley, Heather Matarazzo, and Haley Joel Osment.
