Upcoming Mumbai-based band Unohu has been involved in the music scene for only a year, but managed to impress since the very start when they made their debut at Cool Chef Cafe in September last year.

Since then, Unohu has recorded three singles, performed at a number of venues and will be at independent webzine NH7’s monthly gig series The Scene at Blue Frog, Mumbai. The three-member band, including siblings Sarthak Karkare on vocals and guitar, Shashwat Karkare on drums and Yohann Coutinho on bass have managed to strike that tricky balance between cramming for college and rehearsing and playing gigs. Says Sarthak, “We have a very tight schedule where we attend college, extra curricular work and then sort out time in the evening for our music. Everyday goes on in a loop like this.”

Unohu has even accomplished writing new material. Adds Sarthak, “Between now and performing at Kino 108 (in March this year), we’ve just been working on our music at different jam rooms all over the city.” The band is all set to record their new single after their performance at Blue Frog next week. “It’s going to be titled ”˜The Game’. It’s very indie and groovy with a happy, trippy vibe that people may really enjoy,” says Sarthak, adding that his new song doesn’t have any fixed meaning or theme. “It’s open to interpretation so we can’t say what it will be about.” The single will be recorded at Mumbai-based producer Ayan De’s Midicore Studios and is slated to be released next month.

For their show at The Scene 5.0, Unohu plans to perform a 45-minute set comprising eight tracks including some of the new songs they’ve written such as “The Game,” the prog-gy “Jinxed” and “Bending Curves” besides older tracks like “Caught Between A Rock And Your Face,” which featured on the “unmetal” compilation Stupiditties 666 last year and “Parachute,” which was released as a single in May.

The lineup for The Scene 5.0 includes Mumbai jam band Something Relevant, Delhi experimental band TankBund and harpist Anoushka a.k.a. Nush Lewis also from Mumbai.
