Mumbai Duo FeatherHill Launch Breathy Debut Song ‘I’
Singer-guitarist Keith Fernandes and drummer Hussain Masalawala pen a reflective track, accompanied by a music video
On a hot day at the beach in Vasai, singer-songwriter Keith Fernandes and drummer Hussain Masalawala — together as duo FeatherHill — were shooting the music video for their just released debut single “I.” As the duo recall gleefully, “We were trying to control our Baywatch instincts from overpowering us.”
Although all the hilarity and goofy sequences are stashed away in the uncut version, what we get to see is the pensive side of FeatherHill, who came together in 2017 and took their name from a hill where the members met. “Our emotions, experiences and inspirations that led us to write our music were all born in that place,” the duo say in a statement.
Produced by guitarist and sound engineer Chaitanya Pandit and mixed by violinist-producer Ajay Jayanthi, “I” is a sprawling track that is seemingly informed by Seventies prog as well as modern rock and pop. In the time it’s taken them to release their first single, Fernandes says the lyrics of “I” have made them learn a lot along the way. “We see this song as a perfect analogy of life. It has taught us many things right from the creation stage till the final product proving that the journey of life is never a straight line but full of unexpected ups and downs.”
