Overhung believe sharing is caring. In the run-up to the release of their new album Moving Ahead, the Mumbai glam rock band treated their fans to a range of stuff on social media ”“ from a peep into the final masters via Facebook Live to images of mock CD covers and 2AM brainstorming. Not to mention the customary picture of the just-arrived cartons of CDs.

The four-member band ”“ comprising Sujit Kumar (vocals), Howard Pereira (guitars), Sheldon Dixon (drums) and Crosby Fernandes (bass) ”“ have been off the gig circuit for a while now, but with the release of the new album, they are looking forward to an action-packed season. The 10-track Moving Ahead is the follow-up to their debut EP Extended 4Play which released in 2012. The album was due last year but kept getting stalled because the band couldn’t settle on final mixes. They ended up re-recording some parts while Dixon stepped in as producer and also mixed the album. He says, “I’m not a trained sound engineer but I figured it out, and we just went ahead with it.” Adds Pereira, “Sonically, the album is in the space where we always wanted it to be, which is kind of arena hard rock.”

Moving Ahead kicks off with a straight-up rock & roll song “Sex Machine,” which includes lustful moans over Pereira’s guitar solo, performed by a “friend of the band,” followed by the spacey “Insane.” The band show off their subtle side with the ballad “Waste” before signing off with “You Think You’re So Cool,” the shortest track on the record which packs in punk rock influences.

With tonight’s launch gig at Mumbai’s Hard Rock Café Andheri, Overhung will kick off a nationwide tour before returning to home turf for a see-off show on October 13th.
