When Mumbai-bred guitarist Kevin Parallax first picked up the instrument, he immediately struck a connection with it. As a 16-year-old, he took classes to better his skill and sought the expertise of other musicians such as William Daniel, Arun Kerkar, Ravi Iyer and Chandresh Kudwa to better his craft. Once he graduated from high school, the guitarist applied to Los Angeles’ Musician’s Institute to pursue a course in Associates of Arts in Guitar Performance. “I only decided to study abroad because I had won two scholarships, which made it a lot easier to be able to afford a degree in the U.S.,” says Parallax. He adds, “I’ll be graduating very soon.”

However, before finishing off his spell at Musician’s Institute, Parallax has decided to release his debut instrumental rock single “Fantasy Integration.”

The musician admits that over the years he was more focused on mastering his playing ability and never had a knack for songwriting. He says, “None of my tunes sounded much like a huge deal, but this one stuck in the back of my head and I couldn’t stop singing it. That’s when I decided to work further on it and build it into a proper song.”

Once Parallax had “Fantasy Integration” near-complete, he felt it was lacking something. The guitarist thought a bass solo would add gusto to the song and reached out to bassist Ashwin Shriyan (previously of Mumbai extreme metallers Demonic Resurrection and prog metal band The Minerva Conduct) to play on the track. “It turned out to be better than I thought it would. I can’t appreciate Ashwin enough on taking a personal interest in filling that hole in the song with his magic and making this happen, for an amazing bassist that he is,” says Parallax.

“Fantasy Integration” opens with euphoric distorted guitar chugging and Parallax’s dexterous fretwork as well as fiery solos. Midway through the song, it slows down in pace for Shriyan’s melodic and bold solo before picking up again for one last hurrah. Parallax recorded the song “wrapped in cables” sitting on his bed in the U.S. and got it mixed and mastered by Los Angeles-based Arnold Antony. There’s plenty of new music on the way by the guitarist and he also plans on working with Shriyan on more material. “I promise that it will be way heavier than this one,” says Parallax.
