Mumbai pop singer and songwriter Sohail Nathani trades sweet confessions about his beloved on his cheery new song “Safe,” featuring singer Gehna Singh and produced by Ryini Beats.
Starting out with a simple acoustic guitar melody, Nathani’s fifth single moves into a breathy, affable pop space in the vein of artists like Justin Bieber and Lauv. Singh brings in the female perspective with her straightforward vocals, with the duo getting into a call and response for a short verse in the lush song. At two and a half minutes, “Safe” runs through multiple pop elements to keep the energy going, from a spirited chorus to a dreamy bridge section and a charming outro that brings the song back to its acoustic beginnings.
Nathani, who has been releasing 2021, put out “Safe” in December 2022, exactly a year after his previous release “Bloodstream.” It’s a comeback of sorts for Nathani, who began working on (and releasing) music during the pandemic-enforced lockdowns. He says about the reception for the new song so far, “I’m glad that people are loving it. You feel safe when you are in the arms of your loved ones and find strength in your significant other. Safe is dedicated to that feeling. It’s about how a glimpse of their smile can make your day when you’re at your lowest. I’m truly overwhelmed with the response and hope to come up with a new single soon.”
“Safe” was recorded by Pranay Gode at Mumbai’s Cali Recording Studios and has been mixed and mastered by Ankit Dhandhare.
