Heavily influenced by India’s indie-pop tunes of the Nineties from artists such as Colonial Cousins and Silk Route, among others, Mumbai singer-songwriter Ketan Mohite knew from an early age that music was his calling. After studying engineering and working in the field at various jobs as well as obtaining an MBA in marketing, Mohite’s break with music came through an internship with Mumbai’s Furtado’s School of Music. The artist would go on to release his debut single “Main Kaun Hoon” in 2018 and follow that up a year later with “Raahein.” Now, Mohite is back with his third track, the soaring “Tera Intezaar.”
The singer-songwriter initially penned “Tera Intezaar” two years ago but only put the final touches on it this past January with the help of lyricist Manoj Yadav. Mohite says, “He [Yadav] gave it a new direction.” On the song, the musician sings about waiting for true love and the journey of getting your heart broken and losing touch with people on the way.
The heavy rock ballad – produced by Nyzel Dlima – includes Mohite’s powerful and emotive vocals, crisp guitar parts, a bass groove from American musician Bubby Lewis (who has worked with everyone from rapper Snoop Dogg to R&B star Stevie Wonder), assertive drumming from soul group Funktuation’s David Joseph and more. Dlima even tracked guitars for the song and also mixed and mastered it.
Mohite – who is an artist manager for a music equipment brand – has been working from home during the lockdown while also sharpening his music production skills. He says, “I’ve been balancing music and work.” The singer-songwriter is optimistic about things going back to normal and hopes to begin churning away at new music soon.
