Music, Art and Sustainability Festival DGTL Heads to India in 2020
The electronic music festival, which was born in Amsterdam, aims to become “fully climate-neutral”
Another one of Europe’s top traveling electronic dance music festivals will set up in India next year. Dutch music festival DGTL (pronounced ‘Digital’) will host its debut India edition on January 11th and 12th at the Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru.
Debuting in 2013 in Amsterdam, DGTL has since expanded to editions in São Paulo (Brazil), Santiago (Chile), Barcelona (Spain), Madrid (Spain) and Tel Aviv (Israel), hosting some of the top and cutting edge electronic music producers and DJs in the world.
The lineup of other festival editions is what would make any fan of electronic music keen on the DGTL India lineup, which will be announced later this year. A press release mentions that one headliner will make their DGTL debut in January, alongside other international and Indian artists. At editions across the board, DGTL has booked electronic music producers such as Richie Hawtin, Bonobo, Bicep, Seth Troxler, HVOB, Gold Panda, Four Tet and many more.
DGTL founder Tom Veldhuis said in a statement, “We’ve been eager to introduce the DGTL concept in Asia for a long time now. Talks to host an event in India have been going on for about three years now. If you look at the way the market is developing and evolving, now is the right time to introduce DGTL in India.”
With an eye on sustainability and art, DGTL set up by the docks in Amsterdam for previous editions and adapted its sustainability pitch to other cities as well. Their 2016 edition in Barcelona, for example, was meat-free. By 2020, the Amsterdam edition aims to become the world’s “first fully circular and climate-neutral festival.” Their website states, “Throughout the year, we search for the newest technological innovations to help us reduce waste, lower CO2 emissions, increase awareness and stimulate sustainable participation amongst our visitors.”
DGTL Bengaluru takes place on January 11th and 12th at the Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru. Stay tuned for more details here.
