Last April, Nagpur singer-songwriter Neyhal Ishwar – who goes by his first name – was tucked in bed and ready to fall asleep until he saw Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle bringing artists on his Instagram live as part of his Conemunity sessions. “I casually sent a request thinking he’d never pick me,” says Neyhal. Fortunately for him, Meattle did pick him, and the singer-songwriter ended up playing a song while receiving a positive response in the comments section. “Crazy late-night Instagram lives and making internet friends wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be,” says Neyhal.

Now, with Meattle’s help and Mumbai-based independent music label Big Indie Bang (a subsidiary of Big Bang Music), Neyhal is out with his pensive debut “Mere Tum.”

Growing up, Neyhal tells us he comes from a family of engineers, however, points out that his father has a passion for the arts. Heavily influenced by British rockers Coldplay, Neyhal says, “My dad got me an acoustic guitar in 2017, so I’d have a companion and I started learning it through YouTube.”

Armed with his acoustic guitar, the singer-songwriter uses it beautifully on “Mere Tum.” The new song includes pleasant strumming while Neyhal’s quaint vocals fill up the emotions of the track. A love song at its essence, Neyhal says, “It was as pure as it could get.” The artist recorded the song at Mumbai’s Orbis – The Studio with producer Karan Malhotra. “Karan did the best job understanding my vision and made it even better by putting his heart into this,” says Neyhal. The track also features backing vocals from DJ/producer and singer-songwriter Ambika Nayak aka Kayan as well as violin parts by Ajay Jayanthi.

With a gorgeous music video already out to support the track, looking ahead, Neyhal plans to build on this momentum and build on his sound. With a few more songs in his locker, he says, “I believe in myself and my music and wish to stay true to my art and increase awareness about songwriting as a beautiful craft.”
