Gurugram Singer-Songwriter NAISHA Releases Absorbing Debut Ballad ‘Tell Me Dear’
The artist worked with Black Eyed Peas producer Keith Harris on the track
Gurugram-bred and U.S.-based singer-songwriter NAISHA recently dropped her hypnotic debut single “Tell Me Dear.” The track features immersive plucked guitar parts before it opens up with sonic embellishments, airy drums and NAISHA’s emotive vocals. The song has been produced by U.S.-based Keith Harris (who has previously worked with the Black Eyed Peas and Estelle among others).
In this interview with Rolling Stone India, NAISHA and Harris talk to us about the new song, working together, future plans and more.
What led both of you to work together?
NAISHA: I was introduced to Keith through a familiar friend. I set up a call with Keith, and he liked my voice and agreed to produce my first single. We traveled to L.A. and recorded my song in his studio. He is an incredible producer and has a very talented team. I loved the experience of working with Keith and learned a lot in the process.
Harris: NAISHA was recommended to me by Grammy award-winning artist Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas. He had nothing but positive words to say about NAISHA and that made me extremely excited to work with her and experience her talent.
What can you tell me about the recording process?
Harris: The recording process with NAISHA was pretty smooth. She took great direction, had a great disposition about learning, critiques, and pushed her performance to the next level by embodying and engaging with the emotion of the song.
What can you tell me about the song itself?
NAISHA: My song ‘Tell Me Dear’ is an emotional and heartfelt ballad that tells the story of a person grappling with the pain of a broken relationship and the longing for their former lover’s apology. The song was inspired by dialogue from the movie Corpse Bride by Tim Burton, ‘Tell me, dear, can a heart still break once it’s stopped beating?’ This dialogue spoke volumes, and I decided to base the whole song on just one line, ‘Tell me dear.’ This song has many metaphors and can be interpreted in many ways by the listeners, and it has a highly catchy chorus. So, whether you’re going through a heartbreak or simply appreciate a powerful ballad, ‘Tell Me Dear’ is a must-listen.
Will you be working on more music with NAISHA in the future?
Harris: I am looking forward to working with NAISHA, experiencing her creativity, excitement of the process, and looking forward to creating more amazing music with an amazing young talent.
What’s next for both of you?
NAISHA: I am working on another song currently. It has a catchy melody, and the lyrics are simple yet relatable. I am very proud of this song and excited for it to come out this year.
Harris: I am currently a producer along with Will.i.am for the theme song for this coming season of F1 Racing and touring this summer with The Black Eyed Peas in Europe.
