Natasha Vora Drops Her Fresh R&B Single ‘KAASH’

The new track follows the Los Angeles-based and Mumbai/New Delhi-bred artist’s 2021 debut release ‘Easier’

Although Los Angeles-based R&B artist Natasha Vora was born in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, she’s split her time growing up in Mumbai and New Delhi. She says, “It always prompts funny looks when I tell people that, because we’re always fighting about which city is better.” Being brought up in a musical family piqued Vora’s interest in the art form, but simply as a hobby. However, when her sister urged her to audition for the second season of the English talent show The Stage, Vora went on to make it all the way to the final four of the competition. After that, she says, “I dropped out of my economics degree and never looked back.”

The singer-songwriter released her debut single “Easier” last year and is now out with a fresh new track called “KAASH.” Vora penned the new song last year after going through a painful experience. Her initial attempts were in English but the artist wasn’t satisfied with how the words reflected the way she was feeling. So, she decided to write in Hindi. “It’s something I’d never done before,” she says. Adding, “Everything lyrically started flowing and felt very cathartic. I was just being vulnerable and honest with my emotions as I penned it down.”

According to the singer, “KAASH” talks about her pain of walking away from an intense and toxic relationship. “Arguments in toxic relationships are usually circular, you’re caught in this vicious cycle of arguments not being resolved and having the same fight over and over again. The highs of reconciliation tend to follow the extreme lows of hostility,” she says. Through the verses, Vora sings about broken promises, while during the pre-chorus and chorus she expresses yearning.

Sonically, the track includes jazzy guitar work from Vora’s classmate Hunter O’dore from Los Angeles’ Musicians Institute, her silky vocals and harmonies as well as plenty of melodic phrases, a dreamy groove and more. “I want to explore this space of fresh R&B, creating something that moves you and that you can move to,” she says.

The singer-songwriter worked with producer-bassist Akshat Pradhan (from New Delhi world music group Pakshee), while audio engineer Samarth Dhawan mixed and mastered the song. “The three of us really just vibed out, had fun and created ‘KAASH.’ Hard work and good vibes.”

Ask Vora how its been working on her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Musicians Institute? She says, “It has been very transformative. I’m better versed in the language of music; my mentors here are incredible. There is always more to learn, and I’ll remain a lifelong student of music.” Next, the artist is gearing up to release more singles this year and also has a couple of collaborations in the pipeline. Vora says, “I’m very excited to explore my sound and pour more of my heart out.”
