Canvas and Chords Come Together in Rock Band Nawazishein’s Collab with Artist Vijender Sharma

The latest Hindi rock song from New Delhi band Nawazishein, “Naina,” has a layered depth to it that gets an added dimension with artist Vijender Sharma creating a new work on canvas inspired by the lyrics and mood of the anguished song. It’s all captured in the music video for “Naina,” directed by Kashif Aziz Khan and starring Miloni Jhonsa in the role of a muse of sorts.

Sharma, a veteran artist, says he was pleased with the outcome. “As an artist, one always looks for creative challenges and when [music platform] Songdew approached me for this, I listened to the song and could relate with the theme and message which Nawazishein was trying to convey,” he says.

“Naina” had its origins back in 2019, going through different iterations during jam sessions. The band says they always had a vision for the song, “It’s like a piece of our souls poured onto paper and notes. It’s the most intensely crafted song we’ve ever come up with, and we were absolutely determined to give it all we had,” they add in an email interview. With elements of prog, rock, pop and fusion in the mix, the band says it’s part of their goal to have material that offers a “unique sonic expedition” with each release.

For Sharma, it was understanding the core concept of the song. He adds, “Once that is clear, it is a creative challenge for me to conceptualize how I wish to bring those thoughts alive on the canvas. It was quite an interesting process.” All praise for the songwriting and video, the artist says there should be more “constructive experimentation” in art.

The band say they were thrilled to be working with Sharma, terming it “pure magic.” Sharma adds that he, too, is open to more collaborations in music. “I need to relate with the music and the thought and it should inspire me to go forward,” the artist says.

Nawazishein, for their part, are planning more singles and more collaborations. They also intend to hit the road. “There’s so much more musical magic headed your way,” the band adds.
