The seeds for New Delhi band Salt Rock were planted when drummer Sarthak Pradhan and guitarist-songwriter Mayank Lawrence used to previously perform together with another group. The pair met vocalist Aditi Sharma while they were all studying at Delhi University and around the same time roped in bassist Sarthak Ray to complete the lineup for Salt Rock. At the start of 2020, the band released their groovy debut single “Isle” and are now out with its follow-up, the boisterous “Anarchy.”
The new song contains funky and angsty guitar work, a head-bobbing bass groove, stomping drums as well as Sharma’s high-octane and polished vocals. “’Anarchy’ is an anti-establishment song written as a voice of protest against all forms of oppression around the world,” says Lawrence. The musician, who also adds a slinky guitar solo, explains that the song espouses being the change instead of waiting for it.
Ray explains that the band has found it hard to work on any new music during the lockdown, as they work best when they feed off the energy from one another while in the same room. “We hope that we are able to get together soon,” he says. The band plan on experimenting with more elements of rock music and also want to put out a concept EP in the near future. “We as a band want to create our own sound that is unlike anything ever heard before, and aim to create our own sonic footprint,” says Lawrence.
