New Delhi Gets 10 Days of World Class Jazz This Week

Jazz festivals and tours are about to peak in the coming weeks, thanks to the arrival of several new and seasoned international jazz bands in India. If you’re in the capital, your best bet is likely the Piano Man Jazz Club, which only recently hosted an intimate performance with piano legend Chick Corea when he was in India earlier this month.

The fourth edition of Giants of Jazz festival, hosted at the venue, brings together 10 consecutive days of performances by homegrown and international acts, between November 29th and December 8th. The festival kicks off with Afro-funk jazz act Supergombo from France on the 29th, followed by minimal, electro-inspired jazz from Luxembourg’s Klein on November 30th.

New York-bred jazz composer Sharik Hasan’s project MND FLO performs on December 1st, while other must-see artists include U.K.’s WorldService Project (December 5th), who blend punk ethos with jazz improvisation, Mumbai-based, New Delhi-bred singer Vasundhara Vee (December 7th) and Frankfurt’s jazz-rock act Max Clouth Clan ”“ who released their last album Kamaloka as a snapshot between their previous India visit and German roots.

Put together by Piano Man Jazz Club owner Arjun Sagar Gupta, the Giants of Jazz festival is also curated and organized by The Piano Man Events and Artists Management, which boasts of hosting over a thousand shows over the last three years.
