Fresh Indie Fridays #79 Featuring Kamakshi Khanna, Dot. And More

Kamakshi Khanna, Pranay Parti – “Titli” 

Just a month after releasing her ukulele-aided track “Breathe,” Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Kamakshi Khanna is now out with a brand new single, the dream-pop offering “Titli.” The artist’s latest song features composer-producer and keyboardist Pranay Parti and includes lush soundscapes that tie in R&B, soul music and pop. Khanna’s effervescent vocals shine bright throughout the two-and-a-half-minute track. There’s also a music video starring Khanna that’s been released to accompany the song, in which she’s seen performing “Titli” while riding a cycle, lying down in a park and strolling on a beach. In a statement the singer said, “[It is] a song about a love that feels safe. It celebrates the kind of relationship where the rush and butterflies come from communication, honesty and the courage to be vulnerable without any fear of judgement.” 

Dot. – “Indigo” 

Not long after her collaboration with Ahmedabad-based guitarist and composer Chirag Todi on “Spiced Lemonade,” New Delhi-bred and Bengaluru-based singer-songwriter Aditi Saigal aka Dot. is now out with a fresh single, the easy-going pop-folk song “Indigo.” The fabulously written track includes slick production, quirky lyrics, Dot.’s breezy and smooth vocal delivery and more. The artist said in a statement, “This song is about letting go of your ideas of what other people might think about your work, [to] try and just live in the thing that you’ve created, so for me, that was the fantasy world that I was building.” 

Shefali Alvares, Denny, Aashiq Khan, Mandy Gill – “Tanhai” 

Mumbai singer Shefali Alvares recently released the first single off her three-track forthcoming debut EP Distorted Dystopia in the shape of the jumpy “Tanhai.” The EP is in collaboration with songwriter and music director Denny and “Tanhai” also features artists such as Aashiq Kha and Mandy Gill. The straight-up pop banger includes strong vocals and an upbeat dancey tempo. Alvares said in a statement, “This is my electronic side of life and I am infusing it into my new music. It is me — my sound — and I believe the sound of new India.”

Rajamani Ayyer – Mayhem 

Bhopal-bred multi-instrumentalist, composer-producer and vocalist Rajamani Ayyer is now out with his debut EP, the four-track Mayhem. The record features a dystopian soundscape with plenty of tension building up as the tracks progress, before we hear fiery riffs on the title track. The EP then closes out with a ballad called “Elegy.”
