Pune thrash metal band Kasck first teased their recently released four-track debut EP Deal with the Devil in 2020 with the record’s blistering lead single of the same title followed by the crushing “Death To The Crooked” in 2021.

Now out with the full EP, the group – comprising vocalist-guitarist Mayank Katare, bassist Saurabh Lodha and their latest addition, drummer Saurabh Sharma – showcase their fiery music on the aforementioned tracks as well as two new songs called “The Punisher” and “A Thousand Deaths.”

For any thrash metal fan, Deal with the Devil is a must-listen with its chugging distorted guitar parts and riffs, elevated and euphoric drums, bustling bass grooves as well as the growly yet steely vocals on offer. Lyrically, the band covers themes such as questioning self-existence as well as corruption and terror by ruling powers on the record. On the EP’s title, Katare says in jest, “I did not make any deal with the devil, it’s just a good title and suited the lyrics [of the title track] and of course, it sounds cool too.”

Over on their YouTube channel, the band has also released a playthrough music video interspersed with footage of protests for “Death To The Crooked” and even a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the EP.

The metal group also recently concluded a launch gig in Pune and even a three-city tour in Nepal. They are now plotting for more shows to promote the EP in India. On their Nepal gigs, the group said, “A big thanks to everyone we worked with on this tour, all the bands, venues, organizers, vendors, crew and most of all the crazy metalheads of Nepal who came to the shows and made this tour memorable for us.”

The band is selling merch to further promote the EP and in this digital age of streaming, Kasck has even printed CDs that listeners can purchase as a nice old-school touch. With a strong debut in the shape of Deal with the Devil, the future looks promising for this Pune-based thrash metal outfit.
