Inspired by real-life events, Shubhash Kapoor’s Maharani is a political drama set in the Nineties in the state of Bihar. The story is about Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi), a simple small-town homemaker with little to explore beyond the domestic realm. To her shock and others’ dismay, she gets introduced to the world of politics when her husband, the Chief Minister of Bihar (Sohum Shah), announces her unexpected candidacy as his successor. This energy-driven tale of corruption, deceit and vested political agenda is one of the most anticipated movies this year.

Watch Maharani on SonyLIV from May 28th onwards.

Anukoni Athidi is the Telugu dubbed version of the Malayalam psychological horror movie Athiran and is set to make its digital release on the Telugu streaming platform Aha Video. Amin Hajee, co-writer on 2004 film Swades, makes his directorial debut with a story centered around a fictional mass murderer who jumps out of the pages of a book penned by Kapoor’s character. Aamir Khan and Eli Avram also share the screen in a cameo in the song “Har Fun Maula.” The film previously hit the theaters on March 26th, but it was wise to have an OTT release.
