New on OTT: ‘Toofan,’ ‘Malik,’ and More

Twisted horror stories, crime-thrillers, and sports dramas await you this fortnight

This Malayalam romantic drama film is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph (Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, Oru Muthassi Gadha) and written by Akshay Hareesh. It tells the story of an aspiring filmmaker Sara (Anna Ben), who falls in love with Jeevan (Sunny Wayne). Keeping Sara’s goal a priority, the film explores the couple’s decision to remain child-free and the social challenges they take on henceforth.

Toofaan

Toofaan is a slice-of-life drama starring Farhan Akhtar as the protagonist in a boxer’s role alongside Ghost Stories fame Mrunal Thakur and veteran actor Paresh Rawal. Akhtar and director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra team up for yet another sports movie after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in 2013. Toofan was originally set to release in September 2020 but is now pushed to an OTT launch due to the second wave of COVID-19.

Malik

Written, directed and edited by Mahesh Narayanan (Take Off, C U Soon), this Anto Joseph production is a Malayalam-language crime drama. It stars Fahadh Faasil (Take Off, Kumbalangi Nights), Nimisha Sajayan (The Great Indian Kitchen, Eeda) and Joju George (Jagame Thandhiram, Take Off) in prominent roles. The story spans almost half a century and tracks Sulaiman Malik (Faasil) from his childhood to the present day as he fights against the rife corruption in his village.

Chathur Mukham

Experience a twisted story with this techno-horror thriller directed by the duo Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V., who previously worked together on Kohinoor (2015) and Anveshanam (2020). Much like the hit U.K. series Black Mirror, Chathur Mukham is a story about our nightmarish overdependence on technology and its ill effects in real life. It’s led by Malayalam superstar Manju Warrier along with Sunny Wayne and Alencier Ley Lopez in pivotal roles.

State Of Siege: Temple Attack

Dil Chahta Hai heartthrob Akshaye Khanna makes his OTT foray with Ken Ghosh’s new action-packed drama.The project is a follow-up of the 2020 miniseries titled State of Siege: 26/11 which was based on the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. The second installment centers around the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack in Gujarat and stars Khanna as N.S.G. commander Hanut Singh along with Hindi television actor Gautam Rode (Saraswatichandra), Manjari Fadnnis (Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Love Aaj Kal) and Akshay Oberoi (Madam Chief Minister, Pizza)

Collar Bomb

Directed by Marathi filmmaker Dnyanesh Zoting (Rakshas) and written by Nikhil Nair (Serious Men), Collar Bomb is yet another crime thriller with actor Jimmy Shergill at the helm, supported by second-in-command Asha Negi (Ludo, Abhay). It revolves around a police officer, Manoj Hesi (played by Shergill), who has to race against a time bomb to save his town and his loved ones and, in turn, hunt down the ones responsible for this chaos.
