Keeping alive their tradition of bringing down artists from around the globe to India, New York pop-rock band American Authors will perform at the Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay’s cultural festival Mood Indigo on December 29th.
With the festival being held between December 27th and 30th this year, Mood Indigo has also moved away from terming their rock band mainstay event as Livewire Nite (the title is now just reserved for the band competition), now terming American Authors as International Nite headliners.
The trio American Authors – comprising vocalist-guitarist Zac Barnett, bassist Dave Rublin and drummer Matt Sanchez – came together in 2006 as students at Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was in 2014 that they released their album Oh, What A Life and with it came their most recognizable song to date, the cheery, warm and anthemic “Best Day Of My Life.” The album also included songs like “Believer,” and was followed up by their 2016 album What We Live For, which spawned another pop-rock hit titled “I’m Born To Run.”
Since then, there’s been another album (Seasons, 2019) and a spate of EPs released, plus collaborations with artists like guitar great Santana and EDM giant Fedde Le Grand. A fourth album is now in the works for release in early 2023. “We’ve never been afraid to explore new musical genres but we always try to maintain a message of hope in our music,” Barnett says in a press statement.
American Authors follow a slew of international rock acts who have performed at IIT-B Mood Indigo. That includes everyone from prog rockers Porcupine Tree in 2009 to punk-rockers Simple Plan in 2012, prog act Haken in 2017 and Norwegian band Leprous in 2018.
Tickets for Mood Indigo’s International Nite will go on sale soon. Watch the video for “Best Day of My Life” below.
