Nikhil D’Souza Gets Introspective About Breakups on New Single ‘Socho’

The track is the Mumbai singer-songwriter’s first release of 2023

After quite a busy 2022 in terms of releases – including his hit track “Mausam Hai Pyaar” from the web series Modern Love Mumbai – Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Nikhil D’Souza has no inclination of slowing down this year either. The artist recently released his latest single, the upbeat pop track called “Socho.”

The new song opens with elegant keyboard stabs and hand claps as D’Souza’s luscious vocals enter the fray. “Socho” then picks up with drums, guitar strums, a booming bassline and a horn solo, as well as various other sonic textures that lift the track.

The song has been co-produced by Mumbai artists Aditya Ashok (from pop-rock band The Colour Compound) aka OX7GEN, who produces music under the moniker 7NATION, and Nathan Thomas aka NATE08 who also contributed bass and guitar parts to the track. The lyrics were penned by D’Souza’s long-time collaborator Pinky Poonawala. The singer-songwriter says, “With ‘Socho,’ I have pushed my comfort zone and refreshed my sound a bit, adding a layer of pop beats that make this track melancholic and groovy at the same time.”

With “Socho,” D’Souza breaks down how relationships go from being rosy at the beginning to dark and gloomy towards the end. He adds, “‘Socho’ is about the choice one makes to be alone rather than risk the chance of being with someone new. It talks about the bits that hold you back from committing to someone new given that you haven’t healed from the previous one. And despite the fears, you give it a try, only to see it break down again in a pattern that’s all too familiar.”

Looking ahead, the singer-songwriter has plans to release more music in 2023. “This year will see a whole lot of new music from me. At a time when indie music from the country is making waves globally, I will continue to play my part to further this,” says D’Souza.
